tomorrow's your 2nd birthday ... yea!!!

dear kate,

i can hardly believe that you will be turning 2 years old already!

you are so precious to me

and to all of your family here in ontario.

even though we live far apart, you are in my

thoughts

and my prayers

every single day.

i love our chats on skype,

even though you can't actually carry on a "real" conversation yet.

i love just seeing you.

i love it when you go to your little kitchen

to get "nammy" some tea - or toast

and then "feed" it to me over the web-cam.

i love it when you sing to me - or dance.

i love it when you show me your toys.

so ... even though we don't live near each other

we are still close.

and i always look forward to our visits.

it looks like i may book your's and mommy's flight today -

for your summer visit in july!

that's so exciting!

and it really gives us all something to look forward to!

in the meantime, we'll just keep talking on the phone

and visiting on skype!

i love you so much and can't wait to hug and kiss you again in real life!

dear kate,

i was thinking of you today

and i was so happy to have "visits" with you

pretty much every day.

it makes me so happy to be able to see you

and hear you chatter away!

and i thought about how blessed we are to

have skype!

so . . .

in honour of all of this, i wrote a poem for you.

calling with a view

i can talk and see your face

and you can see me too!

it’s the next best thing

when i cant be beside you there

at least I “see” you sing

we can chat and we can play

we can visit all the day

you see me and I see you

thanks to skype, we have a view

so when I’m feeling far away

when the day seems dark and grey

nammy knows just what to do

just skype a call and visit you!

domesticating you . . .

dear kate,

yesterday, i bought you a play kitchen

for an early birthday present.

i had to buy it from a place in cold lake

and have it delivered to your apartment.

you knew something was coming that day

and kept saying to mommy ...

"present? nammy present?"

well, i guess you love it like crazy!

mommy told me you didn't stop making food and drinks

for her all night!

this morning when you got up

the first thing you said was

"kitchen!"

i'm happy i could get it for you

because i love you so much.

i'm also very thankful for skype.

we can chat and see each other on the computer

every day!

and you can make nammy coffee and tea and soup

and all kinds of yummy things in your kitchen

and feed them to me over the web cam!

it's the next best thing to being there

and hugging and kissing you!

dear kate,

mommy called me in hysterics today.

she told me that you did something bad

and she was scolding you.

you, of course, were taking a fit and didn't want to listen

so . . .

mommy said,

"kate! do you want a smack?"

o, the magic words!

you were so happy!

you're attitude changed and you said,

"yes! yes!"

and you ran to your high chair

ready for the treat!

how cute is that? you are adorable!

how could anyone ever be annoyed with you?

dear kate,

today i called mommy on the phone

and all i could hear in the background was you

chattering away

chatter ... chatter ... chatter ...

the conversation sounded really interesting

and full of expression!

i asked mommy what you were saying

and she told me you were just talking to

yourself

. . . some conversation about 'airplanes'

you are so engrossed with airplanes these days

and i'm glad

because an 'airplane' is a tie to me

you know that when you go on an airplane

you will see "nammy"

and i can't wait to see you again my sweetie-pie!

in just 10 days you will be getting on an airplane
with mommy
and coming here to visit grammy and poppa
and all of your family in Ottawa!
we are all so excited
and can't wait to spend some time with you
doing fun things and playing and
giving you lots of hugs and kisses
of course, we want to give mommy tons of

in so long
and it seems so much longer this time

we are going to have so much fun while you are here!
